How to Contribute to SFMI

Shark-Free Marinas is a community effort. We provide you with the tools to approach and educate marinas and the general public as to why harvesting sharks is an ecologically unsafe practice. Members who've made a significant contribution to the SFMI are recognized as a Regional Ambassador. To be listed as an RA you can either:

  1. Speak to a marina and have them register with our website (which is free)
  2. Contribute to our articles or knowledge base for the benefit of all

If you are interested in becoming a Regional Ambassador please Register Here.

You probably already know of a marina in your local area you'd like to see registered as a 'Shark-Free Marina'. While we endeavor to contact all marinas there is a lot you can do to help us by downloading and printing the 'Invitation to Register', post it or take it to the Harbor Master yourself and encourage them to register.

Suggestion:
If you mail our Invitation ensure that you include a personal cover letter telling the marina why your business matters. When contacting a marina remember that they are a business and SFMI respects their right to make a profit and keep their boat owners and visitors happy. It's ok to be passionate about saving sharks but SFMI will not condone slander or defamation of any kind in the name of the Shark-Free Marina Initiative.

Great White Shark: Christie Fisher
Photo donated by Christie Fisher

As an organization we are devoted to developing better strategies for management of shark populations and our oceans. To help provide fishermen, marinas and students with a comprehensive learning experience we are building the Learning Center.

To help build this resource we are asking for donations of royalty free shark photos to Shark-Free Marinas. Your photo will be posted with a credit thanking the photographer for their contribution.

Please note: We will not sell, redistribute or profit from any of your photos. The maximum size used on our site or gallery will be no greater than 150k.

Donate Funds

Thanks to benefactors and generous donations we are able to subsidize the cost of dock signs, brochures and stickers. This brings the per marina cost down to $100 per facility, a cost which is absorbed by the Humane Society of the united States and Shark-Free Marinas. To help us continue doing this (and increasing subsidies in the future) SFMI is partnered with non-profit organizations to enable tax deductible donations.

Non-tax deductible donations can be made on a once of or monthly basis by using the PAYPAL form on the right sidebar of this page.
